Plank Wall progress....

I was a busy girl this past week.  My daughter was home for spring break and we spent a day at the Met visiting all of our favorites!

This Joan of Arc painting is so beautiful in person.  It's got such a mystical feel to it and is one of my absolute favorites by Jule Bastien-Lapage.  Her eyes glow!

The detail in the twigs and flowers is so beautiful

The childlike details in this Klimt are stunning....

I couldn't wait to get home and paint!  So inspiring.

There's also currently an exhibit of Gertrude Stein's collection.
The Horse in this Picasso is so sweet faced

Anyway...

I managed to make a little progress on my little dressing area.  I added new trim moulding around the doors and baseboards.

  I really love the planks!

I made a skirt from Walmart ticking.  I still have to adjust the gathers and finish stapling.  In the end I wish I'd  just installed a shelf instead of building a table.  It was a whole lot of extra work for nothin'...oh well

I'm thinking of getting this light from Lowes.  It's simple looking and inexpensive.  I could even paint it.  It could be cream like the walls, it could be gold!

A mirror like this would be so gorgeous with the whole rustic vs. glam!   I'll have to figure something out.  I so love the shape of this one.

I decided not to distress the planks but go for distressed touches in the accessories instead.

I got several of these frames for $1 each years ago and just crackled them.

I do really like the ticking...

and this old chair frame may work....hmmmmm.  with a velvet poof!  That could be just the glam touch it needs.  I really covet a ghost chair for this spot, but maybe if I paint this one.

Well, things are really coming along little by little.

and....just to make it an even better and even more inspiring week...
I scored this AWESOME bentwood coat/hat rack!

That, my friends, is a work of art!

  1. I love it. It really is looking great. That light is super cute too, even without paint!

  2. Thanks! I saw a deli when I was in NY that had similar lighting painted a creamy white which was the same as the siding. It looked wonderful.

You're so lucky to be building a house! How much fun that must be. You're going to learn so much on the way.
